Position Summary

Michigan State University , partnering with Chemonics, seeks a Senior Academic Specialist for the anticipated USAID/Bangladesh Support to Higher Secondary Education. The anticipated activity will improve the learning outcomes of higher secondary students (grades 11 and 12) with a focus on enhanced professional development, training and the management skills of teachers, principals, education officers and administrators in collaboration/partnership with local entities and Ministry of Education & Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. This position will be based in East Lansing, Michigan.

Assisting project directors and the senior specialist, and remotely working with the Dhaka-based MSU/Chemonics team in ensuring that all goals of the projects are met successfully, including:

  • Collaborating with Co-director Caughlan and relevant expert faculty, contributing to the needs assessment and its analysis
  • Working closely with the teacher professional development specialist in Dhaka, support the in-country development of training materials and the piloting of teacher training, mentor training, and PLC leader training.
  • Collaborate with MSU faculty to collect methods, techniques and examples of Engaged Learning Pedagogy for later shaping to the Bangladesh context.
  • Working closely with MSU consulting faculty to develop training materials for subject-specific PLCs
  • Attend an early pilot training in Bangladesh
  • Given resulting data from pilots over time, provide feedback and assist with revisions.
  • Engage in MEL and CLA activities, where needed.

    Masters -Education with a secondary education

    Desired Degree

    Doctorate

    Minimum Requirements
  • At least five years teaching at the higher secondary level (11th-12th grade).
  • Considerable experience designing and conducting professional development with secondary teachers
  • Some experience working in education across countries or cultures
  • Desired Qualifications
  • PhD in education with a secondary emphasis; research on teacher professional development, teacher learning, or curriculum preferred
  • Knowledge of education system in Bangladesh or similar system.
  • Experience with USAID projects, including reporting procedures, MEL processes, work plans, etc.
