Position Summary

Michigan State University, partnering with Chemonics, seeks an experienced Academic Specialist for the anticipated five-year USAID/Bangladesh Support to Higher Secondary Education. The anticipated activity will improve the learning outcomes of higher secondary students (grades 11 and 12) with a focus on enhanced professional development, training and the management skills of teachers, principals, education officers and administrators in collaboration/partnership with local entities and Ministry of Education & Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. This position will be based in East Lansing, Michigan.

The specialist will:

Support the development and delivery of HSEA program training and other deliverables and quality control

  • Work with the co-directors, faculty experts, and other specialists on the team to provide resources and support to all HSE PD programs in Bangladesh.
  • Call meetings as needed among MSU faculty consultants and PD specialists
  • Call meetings as needed among MSU-based and Dhaka-based specialists
  • Revise training based on results of pilots.
  • Working with the co-directors to maintain quality control and awarding of MSU CED certificates.
  • Support Dhaka-based MSU staff

  • Support as main point of contact and support for two Dhaka-based MSU staff in Y1, Y2, and all three Dhaka-based MSU staff in Y3-Y5.
  • Work closely with the Leadership Training Specialist posted in Dhaka on designing training and writing training manuals.
  • Attend selected pilot trainings in Bangladesh
  • Analysis, communication and reporting

  • Assist in maintaining lines of communication with Chemonics and USAID collaborators as needed
  • Coordinate CLA activities among MSU staff
  • Contribute to quarterly reports
  • Support action research and data management support, obtain IRBs, and related research activities
  • Assist with data gathering and data analysis, from needs analysis on, and write interim reports.

    Doctorate -Educational Leadership, Curriculum

  • Significant experience in leading professional development
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects
  • Experience in working across languages and cultures in education
  • Demonstrated knowledge of secondary education, its issues and cultures
  • Demonstrated success in working with teams of participants from a range of sectors
  • Desired Qualifications
  • Certificate in project management
  • Knowledge of education system in Bangladesh or similar system.
  • Experience with USAID projects, including reporting procedures, MEL processes, work plans, etc.
