Position Summary
The Multicultural Business Programs (MBP) in the Eli Broad College of
Business at Michigan State University is seeking an Outreach Specialist
Coordinator. This is a fixed-term, twelve-month, academic specialist position
with a 100% appointment in the College and is renewable contingent upon
funding and performance.
The Outreach Specialist Coordinator will work with a talented team of
colleagues and play a pivotal role in the operations and success of MBP.
The successful candidate will bring to the position a strong background of
experience in diversity, equity and inclusion competencies, and the ability to
manage programs and balance multiple priorities. This candidate will also
bring to the position outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to
effectively interface across various levels of faculty, staff, and students
within the Broad College of Business and across campus.
The Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for strategic development and
overseeing execution around sourcing, attracting, and educating a talented and
diverse group of students about the Broad College of Business. The successful
candidate will support these efforts in the following ways:
Creatively deploy resources to execute educational programming,
events, and initiatives.
Develop strategy of approach for Multicultural Business Programs staff utilizing goals, outcomes, and KPIs to deploy program and college human/financial resources.
Promote the academic and non-academic programs of the Broad College to prospective students and other key external stakeholder audiences (K-12 staff/educators, parents/guardians, community members, small business owners, and community leaders).
Conduct outreach and serve as the primary point of contact to build influential relationships (via phone, virtually, and in-person) with prospective students and families.
Utilize various methods of communication (email, social media, newsletters, etc.) to communicate MBP efforts, and connect with student populations.
Create and interpret reports using data from the Broad College while providing analytical and well-documented reports of engagement to the rest of the team.
Serve as a liaison, while building active relationships with stakeholders, at middle and high schools throughout Michigan and beyond to recruit and build a pipeline of diverse students to MSU and the Broad College of Business.
Work with the team in the College's Office of Multicultural Business Programs to provide support services to diverse prospective students, undergraduate business-preference, and business students (domestic and international) including academic program planning, education abroad, career development, undergraduate research, graduate study, and related topics.
Attend meetings at the department, college, and university levels.
Serve as a liaison to MSU Admissions by attending meetings and maintaining communications.
Occasional domestic travel is necessary. The successful candidate should
anticipate some required evening/weekend hours. This position is based in East
Lansing and may allow for some hybrid remote/on-site work once the employee is
acclimated to the work environment.

Well prepared candidates will have:

Demonstrated interpersonal skills through a commitment to and interest in working on a team and collaborating

Exhibited competency in the use of technology such as database management, social media composition, presentations, etc.
Must be able to maintain positive relationships with multiple stakeholders at various professional levels
Knowledge of applying equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility best practices in higher education and the workplace
Ability to analyze complex situations, problem-solve, and make objective decisions
Desired Qualifications
Master's degree in higher education, counseling, communication,
business or related field.
Three years of full-time work in working with undergraduate students or working in an advocacy role in a student affairs capacity
Experience working with students, faculty, staff, alumni, corporate employers
Bi/Multi-lingual including English
