The Shipping and Receiving Department is looking for a full-time Shipping and Receiving Assistant for a temporary (up to six months) Local 6070 Maintenance Service Worker III position. This person will support faculty, staff, and students in various areas, including expediting, light maintenance, warehouse, and equipment assembly duties. The projected start date for this position is September 25, 2023.

    Duties:

    100- Receives, unloads, delivers, and expedites, materials, including hazardous materials, equipment, and supplies, in accordance with established policies and procedures. -Check invoices, vouchers, waybills, and purchase orders to verify the accuracy of receiving, storing, or delivering materials. Operate delivery vehicles, forklifts, hand trucks, skids, ramps, and other mechanical equipment in unloading, retrieving, and expediting materials. - Pick up surplus items from campus departments. Inventory and stage surplus items for redistribution or disposal. - Maintain warehouse in a neat and orderly manner at all times. - Other duties as assigned.Essential

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively with other employees, and be able to convey instructions effectively.

    Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work independently and in a group setting, including following instructions given by management and/or a Lead; relating positively to management and other employees; and assisting in providing a productive and safe work environment.

    Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as pressures, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

    Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrams, or schedule form.

    Driving: Clean driving record. Experience driving heavy equipment preferred.

    Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to talk to other employees, supervisors, or the public; hear instructions or requests of other employees, supervisors, or the public; sit while operating large equipment or working on a stationary project; and may be exposed to the unpleasant smell of odors and gases. The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

    Required Experience & Education:

    High School diploma or equivalent. Previous experience performing physical- based work duties. Previous Warehousing experience preferred. Previous experience operating forklifts is preferred.
