We have an exciting opportunity for a SFX Technician to join our Technical and Simulation Resources team. The purpose of the role is to provide theoretical and practical support to students in special effects and prosthetics while providing additional support to the wider technical team.

The role will be varied and will include having responsibility for Health and Safety and Maintenance and there will be some autonomy in making decisions which support the student experience as well as a variety of other tasks which are detailed in the job description.

You must have excellent practical knowledge in prosthetics and special effects techniques, be organised, have a keen eye for detail and be comfortable dealing with a variety of personality types in a changing environment with strict deadlines as well as managing and supporting team members.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Job Title: SFX Technician

    Faculty/Directorate: DTS

    Grade: E

    Location: Pinewood Studios and High Wycombe

    Hours: 0.5 FTE (18.5 hours per week)

    Responsible to: Technical Manager; Art, Design, Media Production and Performance

    Responsible for: N/A

    Job Purpose: The purpose of the role is to provide theoretical and practical support to students in special effects and prosthetics

    Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:

  • Prepare equipment and materials for use by students and lecturers, including mold making and prosthetics.
  • To ensure that equipment is correctly stored and maintained, ensuring adequate supplies of consumables.
  • To ensure efficient booking out and return of kit for SFX sessions.
  • To ensure students and staff are confident and proficient in the safe use of equipment.
  • Operation of media systems such as photography and video equipment, multimedia computer systems, and audio and visual distribution systems.
  • To provide digital support to students where knowledge of Photoshop and other software packages relevant to Photography is essential
  • To assist with with the presentation of project work via a range of digital media.
  • Preparation of materials for assessment.
  • To maintain inventories of equipment, identifying faults and reporting to senior colleagues as appropriate.
  • To provide operational support to senior colleagues as and when required.
  • To help to ensure all areas provide a clean, safe and secure working environment and satisfy relevant Health and Safety regulations, reporting any concerns to senior managers.
  • To collaborate with colleagues across the wider Directorate to provide a customer-focussed service, playing a proactive role in improving the Student Experience.
  • To contribute to the student experience – demonstrating an awareness of the need for ‘customer focus' in respect of resolving issues.
  • To be responsible for the booking and scheduling of sessions, liaising with academic staff and timetabling.
  • Any other such reasonable duties as required by senior managers in consultation with Line Manager.
