DUTIES
The TRU School of Social Work and Human Service (Faculty of Education and Social Work) at Thompson Rivers University invites applications for a Sessional Lecturer for SOCW 3010 – Introduction to Social Work Research to commence immediately and run through to April 1st . The sessional lecturer will support the primary instructor in delivering the course.
In this course, students explore the concepts, methods, and processes of social research, and develop skills in conducting and assessing research. Students are challenged to examine their own approach to knowing, to incorporate research into practice, and to think critically about research in relation to social work practice. The subjectivity of the researcher, the political and ethical context of research, and the role of research as an instrument of power in the lives of oppressed peoples is discussed .

THE SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK AND HUMAN SERVICE
The School of Social Work and Human Service (Faculty of Education and Social Work, Thompson Rivers University) offers a wide range of academic programs on two campuses and through Open Learning. Programs include: Bachelor of Social Work Degree, the Human Service Diploma, Education Assistant and Community Support Certificate (offered at both the Kamloops and Williams Lake campuses), the Social Service Worker Certificate (offered through Open Learning), and the Human Service Diploma (offered through Open Learning). The School also has plans to offer a Master of Social Work degree.
The Bachelor of Social Work program builds on over 25 years of offering professional social work education in Canada. The program prepares sought- after, competent practitioners to provide service and leadership within regional, national, and global contexts to achieve social justice, respect for diversity, and social change. Our graduates work in collaborative and anti- oppressive ways across a full range of service and professional positions to promote positive and progressive to social change.
The program is committed to learner-centred education that identifies and eradicates barriers that prevent people from reaching their full potential. Indigenous perspectives are integrated throughout the curriculum and within two required First Nations and Decolonizing practice courses. We are committed as a Social Work program to redress the legacy of residential schools and to advance the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
