RESPONSIBILITIES

Thompson Rivers University is seeking a sessional faculty member who will teach one section of EDTE3100: Principles of Trades and Technology Education, for three credit hours from July 18 to July 26.

Calendar Description

Students are introduced to the role of trades and technical education in the secondary school setting, including the purposes and the mission of trades and technology education. The course also introduces the basic principles, methods, and techniques of instruction suitable for secondary teaching. Students are instructed in learning theory and learning styles, lesson preparation, lesson types, instructional techniques, learning environments, and classroom management techniques. This course is designed to provide practical knowledge of instructional techniques that can be directly applied in the classroom, with an emphasis on hands-on practice of the instructional skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications

  • A master's degree in education is required.
  • A minimum of one (1) degree in education is required.

  • Three (3) years of full time or equivalent hours teaching in K-12 settings is required;

  • Advanced knowledge of the principles of trade and technology education is required;
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level is preferred;
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills required;
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) is required.
  • Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) is required.
  • Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) is required.
