Your new role

The Service Manager is accountable for managing the efficient operations of one of the technical Hydraulic Maintenance services through trades qualified technicians and contractors to provide quick responses for corrective, breakdown and emergency maintenance.

The candidate will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of the specialist services scheduled and the preventative maintenance program in accordance with statutory requirements and key performance indicators. The incumbent leads and manages specific technical discipline technicians, including staff and contractors, and liaises with other Service Managers to ensure integrated delivery of a high standard and appropriate management of the staffing, financial, and technical issues, including contracts.

In this role, you will also liaise with discipline-specific members of other project teams within Properties, Facilities & Development to ensure that contemporary building, engineering and other related technical advice and support is included in all maintenance and repair work under delivery, promoting the University's profile as a “Green Star Community” ensuring strategic alignment, value assessment and benefits realisation.

In this role, you will, but are not limited to:

  • Plan, schedule and manage the efficient and effective delivery of scheduled and quick response specialist technical services maintenance while minimising any impact on the business continuity of the University.
  • Coordinate, program and prioritise the specialist technical services preventative work program and set optimum performance parameters in a manner that ensures maintenance works are carried out on schedule.
  • Provide complex technical support and troubleshooting expertise to the workshop staff as required.
  • Actively liaise and consult with client groups as necessary to ensure that their needs are recognised at all times in the process for maintenance works and the carrying out of recoverable works.
  • Ensure the delivery of the preventative maintenance program to meet the service delivery key performance indicators.
  • Initiate regular customer satisfaction reviews through the University's Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), review results and implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare and administer relevant contracts including preparation of documentation, evaluation, recommendation and selection of appropriate contractors to suit works required; arrange contract variations, evaluate performance, manage defect liability periods, manage relevant budgets and approve progress and other payments within delegated authority, and monitor client satisfaction.
  • You will bring to the role:

  • Extensive experience, management and specialist technical expertise in hydraulic services in a maintenance and operations environment together with a relevant tertiary or trade qualification.
  • Demonstrated considerable experience in leading and supervising technical staff and contractors ensuring a strong customer focus with significant emphasis on efficiency, value for money, and high performance, together with a proven ability to deal with and solve problems, and provide appropriate and timely guidance and training.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply project and contract management knowledge, experience and skills to plan, prioritise and manage all aspects of relevant contracts and achieve the desired outcomes within required constraints' together with ability to formulate management reports and documents that clearly and effectively address complex issues and enable management to consider prudent financial decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience in the planning, commissioning & handover, delivery, monitoring and reporting of corrective, breakdown and emergency maintenance of building fabric equipment, together with the ability to develop annual budgets and manage relevant financial information.

  • Previous experience working in a large multi-disciplined organisation focussed on managing the delivery of contract outcomes within an integrated public realm and built form environment.
