  • About This Opportunity

    An experienced Software Engineer is sought for the role of team-leader for a small software engineering team. The team is tasked with the development of bespoke learning innovations in the education domain. The role will rely on the technical and interpersonal skills developed during the application of software engineering principles during previous experiences.

    Our ideal candidate will exhibit transformational leadership qualities with a continuous learning approach to life. Effective communication will be essential to achieve in this role.

    Key responsibilities will include:

  • Work closely with the Manager of Software Engineering to create and continuously improve a high performing developer team.

  • Take responsibility for the design, implementation, and support of custom on-line learning tools created by the software engineering team.

  • Collaborate closely with project stakeholders throughout the software development life cycle to ensure regular feedback and agility.

  • Drive consistent software delivery practices focused on quality and sustainable coding practices.

  • Champion an inclusive, team-orientated environment where innovation thrives.

  • Continuously explore and assess emerging technologies and engineering practices, sharing insights and knowledge.

  • Manage multiple operational activities concurrently with precision and agility.

  • Play a critical role in costing grant applications, project estimations, and process improvements.

  • Undertake additional duties that fall within your expertise and training.

  • This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position until 31 December 2024 (potential extension).

    At HEW level 7, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $96,649.64 - $105,244.58, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $113,080.08 - $123,136.16 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.

    About You

  • Bachelor's degree complimented with extensive professional software engineering experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Experience leading and building high performing software engineering teams.

  • Expertise in developing microservices and RESTful APIs using NodeJS with Typescript.

  • Strong database development skills in both relational and NoSQL databases.

  • Proficiency in frontend JavaScript frameworks/libraries such as Vue or React.

  • Expertise with DevOps and engineering infrastructure such as Linux, Docker, code versioning, build pipelines.

  • Expertise in software engineering methodologies and processes.

  • Ability to provide technical leadership, mentoring and coaching team members, and maintain current knowledge of emerging technologies and security protocols.
