  • About the Role

    The Senior Server Administrator: Systems Infrastructure leads the development, support and maintenance of physical and virtual servers, data management systems, data protection, Email and identity management and security to support the University's IT environment.

    Using their substantial expertise and knowledge the incumbent provides technical direction for complex IT problems; architectural leadership and is responsible for particular groupings of technologies in the systems infrastructure environment. This role also guides less experienced staff in the implementation and operationalisation of innovative projects and new technical solutions.

    Information Strategy and Technology Services (ISTS), which has the primary strategic and operational responsibility for the provision of the UniSA's considerable IT infrastructure and services has approximately 180 staff in 9 key areas.

  • ISTS contributes to the University's strategic goals and objectives by providing:
  • University wide IT support for staff and students
  • technical support, development and management of
  • communication services such as fixed and wireless data networks, telephone systems, voicemail, and high speed access to the internet
  • collaboration facilities such as email, calendaring, video and audio conferencing, instant messaging and document sharing
  • over 2,700 on campus computers for students
  • teaching technology in general purpose teaching spaces and
  • central infrastructure (servers, data storage and data centres)
  • technical support, development and management of information systems which support online teaching and learning, research management and research education, student experience, administration, data integration and business intelligence, the staff and student portals, and the corporate web
  • identification and management of ICT based risks and disaster recovery planning
  • technical project management services for major, University wide ITC projects
  • management of University wide hardware and software purchasing arrangements and
  • development, maintenance and communication of policies, procedures and guidelines for the use of information technology within the university
  • Essential Skills and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (normally a degree) or demonstrated equivalent knowledge, experience and skills and a commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Extensive technical leadership and experience in design, documentation and provision of technical leadership for the architecture of specific technologies associated with Servers (Windows and/or Red Hat Enterprise Linux) and Storage including automated system builds, virtual machines, capacity planning, storage area networks, backup and recovery technologies and disaster recovery
  • Extensive experience using the architecture of applications that are layered on top of the systems infrastructure environment including Active Directory, ADFS/AzureAD, Microsoft Exchange, Database and Web servers
  • Significant relevant professional information technology experience in a complex networked computing environment comparable with that of the University and the interaction of protocols and services including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and server network configurations
  • Significant experience in architectural design, development, maintenance, support and administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux OR MS Windows based servers with experience in both preferred
