Senior Researcher

Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Woodstock Road, Oxford

Applications are invited for a Senior Researcher to work with a team working with Professor Sir Aziz Sheikh on a research programme that involves research into developing risk prediction algorithms across a UK-wide (four nation) portfolio of inflammation and immunity research studies to answer questions about healthcare utilisation and outcomes for common allergic and respiratory conditions in near real time.

The successful applicant will lead in research to develop, test and validate next generation risk prediction algorithms across a range of datasets and cohorts across the four nations as part of the HDRUK funded Driver Program for Inflammation and Immunity. Responsibilities will include leading analysis of multiple linked datasets to understand, and provide expert advice and guidance on the delivery of effective, safe and personalised care, developing risk prediction algorithms and to coordinate and generate research opportunities for use of respiratory, allergy and wider inflammatory-mediated disease data with other existing data and cohorts (e.g. genomic, financial, pollution, meteorological, wearable).

You will have a PhD in relevant scientific or numerate subject such as data science, or able to demonstrate relevant and equivalent experience. You will have significant experience in writing complex queries to interrogate databases and accompanying statistical analysis packages (e.g. R, SQL) and of developing and testing risk prediction algorithms in health data.

You will be based in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, Radcliffe Primary Care Building, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG as your normal place of work but there may be the opportunity for occasional remote working as agreed with your line manager.

The position is full-time and fixed term until 31 July 2027 in the first instance.
