BOF-96 Senior Researcher II – Team Leader Edge AI
Contract: Full Time/ Fixed Term (1 year)
The Wireless Sensor Network Group (WSN) at the Tyndall National Institute, University College Cork is currently advertising for the position of “Senior Researcher II” to lead a research team focused on the development of Advanced (edge) AI for implementation in a variety of application domains such as industry 4.0 (smart manufacturing), agri-tech and environmental monitoring, and wearable systems for health and wellness.

As a result of funding secured under significant commercial and government investment in the area of wearable sensing systems for healthcare applications, the Wireless Sensor Network Group, Tyndall National Institute - University College Cork, invites applications for an appointment as a Senior Researcher to drive and manage a multidisciplinary research team in edge AI (on resource constrained hardware, in the cloud and on the interface between these).
Reporting to the WSN Head of Group or their nominee, this is an exciting opportunity to help define and implement advanced research projects in the disruptive, fast-moving, industrially relevant area of Edge AI, Data Analytics and Machine learning for smart sensing systems.
Working with the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) Head of Group and aligned research teams across Tyndall and UCC, the successful candidate will lead and manage a team of multi-disciplinary researchers with expertise in the development machine learning, artificial Intelligence (cloud and edge), and data analytics for sensor systems in multiple application domains (health care, environmental monitoring, and smart manufacturing).
The team leader will define and implement a research roadmap for edge AI for the Wireless Sensors Group and the Tyndall National Institute.
Activities will include research definition, funding acquisition, and implementation of funded research programs resulting in highly cited high impact journal papers, white papers in relevant research areas, and development of an ERC aligned research program in edge AI.
The role requires travel to international conferences, workshops, industry meetings, proposal project meetings, to strategically position Tyndall WSN as a world-leading advanced research group in wearable systems.
The successful candidate will need to show high levels of initiative, self- management, achievement-orientation, and motivation as well as a proven ability to resource and manage a multidisciplinary research team in an exciting and fast-moving research area.
