Applications are invited for appointment as Senior Research Assistant (several posts) in the Division of Public Health Laboratory Sciences (PHLS) of the School of Public Health (Ref.: 526828) (to commence as soon as possible on a one-year temporary basis or a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)

Applicants should have a Master's degree in biological sciences, medical sciences or related disciplines, with at least 5 years' working experience in virology laboratories. They should have substantial experience in (i) processing clinical and animal specimens in BSL-2 and BSL-2+ environment; (ii) operating manual and automatic nucleic acid extraction platform; (iii) performing RT-PCR tests, full genome PCR amplification, library preparation, and next generation sequencing (NGS); and/or (iv) conducting NGS analysis using Linux system. Experience in maintaining cell lines, virus culture, equipment maintenance and inventory system is a bonus. They should be responsible, self-motivated and diligent.

The appointees will join a research team led by Professor Benjamin Cowling and conduct research on the epidemiology of respiratory virus infections including COVID-19 and influenza. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointments on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary.
