Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher, nasc Research Centre, School of Computer Science & IT
33 Months, Fixed-Term Whole-Time Post
Position Summary
Applications are invited for the role of Senior Post Doctoral Researcher at nasc research.
External appointments made directly to Senior Post-Doctoral research positions should have previous post-doctoral experience of at least 3 years.
We are now looking for a Senior Post Doctoral Researcher to join our research team at nasc research. This position provides an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and inclusive research team at University College Cork (UCC). nasc comprises approximately 50 people working on networks, security and systems research. nasc is part of the School of Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT). CSIT is a large, research-focused school, participating in many major national and international research collaborations, and with extremely strong links to industry partners.
We are looking for a Senior Post Doctoral Researcher to join the DANGER-IoT project. This research project is funded under the Research Ireland US-Ireland R&D Partnership Programme with academic partners Rochester Institute of Technology and Queen's University Belfast.
Malware attacks on IoT systems are increasing as quickly as the uses of IoT systems. While significant research has explored how to detect traditional malware for PCs and mobile devices, these approaches cannot be directly applied to IoT malware due to the heterogeneity and low power of IoT systems. State-of-the-art models are also not robust against adversarial example malware. To address these challenges, we will develop Discriminative Adversarial Networks that are Generic, Efficient, and Robust for IoT Malware Detection (DANGER-IoT).
The research will be carried out under the supervision of Prof Utz Roedig. The appointee will work together with other Postdocs and PhD students on malware detection in large-scale IoT networks. The researcher will be expected to make significant contributions to the research agenda of DANGER-IoT, working closely with the Principal Investigator Professor Roedig and with academic and industry collaborators.
We welcome applications by researchers with an established publication track record, appropriate to their career stage. Candidates should have experience in at least two of the following areas: cybersecurity, malware, secure software development, malware detection, AI with specific focus on malware detection, IoT. The candidate should demonstrate a strong background in computer security, system design and system programming. Candidates should have experience of collaborating and engaging with industry, or demonstrate potential for doing so. The project requires coordination with international research and industry partners. The work requires outreach and communication with external stakeholders. In line with our Athena SWAN ambitions we especially encourage women to apply for these positions.
