  • About This Opportunity

    The primary role of this position is to provide support to the Faculty's academic and leadership to advance the research partnership strategy in line with Faculty of Science Strategic plan and the UQ Research Roadmap. The position will work closely with the Faculty's Associate Dean (Research) and Deputy Associate Deans to build clear frameworks, identify training gaps for researchers to enable industry engagement and identify potential partners aligned with the research partnership strategy. The position will also be expected to develop close working relationships with Research Management and Research Partnerships in the Faculty and also relevant central teams.

    Key responsibilities will include:

  • Working with the Associate Dean (Research), and other senior leaders, progress the Faculty of Science research partnership strategy to increase effective engagement with industry aligned with the Faculty of Science Strategic plan and the UQ Research Roadmap.

  • Support mapping of the Faculty's research capabilities aligned with the research partnership strategy.

  • Working with the Associate Dean (Research), and partnership-focused business development colleagues, create a clear industry engagement framework which includes processes and principles for leaders, professional staff and researchers in the Faculty to follow and communicate these to key stakeholders.

  • Identify target research partners, examining both traditional and non- traditional sectors to identify organisations whose strategic opportunities and challenges intersect with the Faculty of Science core research capabilities, considering past engagements (business intelligence), and growth opportunities (market intelligence).

  • Upskill researchers to engage with industry by developing training material and organising training events/workshops.

  • Work collaboratively with research partnership-focused business development colleagues in both the central function and other Faculties and Institutes, to ensure that relevant market intelligence is shared and potential for cross-portfolio collaboration is leveraged.

  • This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position until end of 2024.

    At HEW level 9, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $127,496.67 - $134,829.23, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $149,171.11 - $157,750.20 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.

    About You
  • A Bachelor's degree, preferably in a discipline relevant to the Faculty of Science and ideally subsequent industry experience.

  • Relevant experience in business development within a research-led organization, whether in industry or university environment.

  • An understanding of the university research sector and the role of universities in the research and development pipeline.

  • Demonstrated experience in successfully engaging with industry partners (including business, government and not-for-profit organisations).

  • Demonstrated understanding of the translation expectations of research partners.

  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with staff within the University and with key external partners, requiring excellence in interpersonal skills, communication and integrity.

  • Demonstrated excellence in analysis, prioritization and organization.
