Curtin Medical School invites applications for the role of Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor (Professional Panel Lead). This position is pivotal in maintaining the integrity and alignment of the Professionalism Panels within the MBBS program. Working closely with the Professional and Leader (PAL) Domain Lead, this role is instrumental in ensuring our curriculum reflects the highest standards of professionalism and aligns with the Australian Medical Council (AMC) graduate outcomes.

  • Key Responsibilities:

  • Panel Oversight and Documentation: Ensure that the MBBS Professional Behaviour and Registration Panels are well-documented, function efficiently, and maintain exemplary record-keeping standards.
  • Advisory Role: Provide crucial advice to the Associate Dean and Director of Medical Program regarding the outcomes of professionalism issues, influencing Board of Examiner decisions.
  • Curriculum Alignment: Collaborate with the Professional and Leader (PAL) Domain Lead to ensure that curriculum content in areas of professionalism, leadership, medico-legal, bioethics, and interprofessional learning meets the required AMC graduate outcomes.
  • Assessment Contribution : Assist in developing assessment materials for the PAL curriculum, ensuring that evaluations are comprehensive and aligned with learning objectives.
  • Competency Panel Leadership: Play a leading role in the PAL Domain Competency Panel Assessment Committee, offering expert input on the teaching and assessment of clinical competence across all years of the MBBS program.
  • Support for Medicine Discipline Activities: Support various activities under the Discipline of Medicine as directed by the Associate Dean of Medicine, including involvement in student selection for the MBBS course.
  • The role will focus on curriculum and assessment development and competency assessment panels, without direct teaching responsibilities to maintain impartiality in high-stakes decisions regarding student professionalism. Contributions may include asynchronous content delivery, such as recorded lectures.

    Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Medicine, with APHRA registration.
  • PhD or Clinical Fellowship, legal or bioethics qualifications (highly desirable).
  • Demonstrated experience in medical education with a focus on professionalism, leadership, and ethical practices.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and learning, with a reflective and innovative approach.
  • A track record of educational scholarship and success in securing teaching-related grants (desirable).
  • Strong knowledge of pedagogical theories and contemporary educational practices.
  • Proven experience in curriculum development and leadership in educational initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on cross-cultural interactions.
