The School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology at University College Cork (UCC) wishes to appoint an experienced researcher to the role of Senior Lecturer, to support the School's established and expanding research in areas of modern biochemistry and molecular cell biology. The candidate's core research area will complement one or more of the School's established research areas, including; neuroscience, cancer biology, immunobiology, host-microbe interactions, vaccine development and delivery, cellular signalling and membrane trafficking, RNA biology, biological data analysis or novel biosensors. The appointee must hold a doctoral degree, have research experience leading to international recognised publication and a research portfolio in fundamental research.

The School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology is a modern, vibrant academic and research unit, performing internationally recognized research and delivering high quality academic programmes in the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science (SEFS) and the College of Medicine and Health. Staff of the School are significant contributors to the Life Sciences at UCC with a strong research ethos, and with an excellent track record of publication in high impact journals and securing competitive research funding. The School has a strong emphasis on fundamental research that is linked to translational collaborations, and a high level of innovation and entrepreneurship, including spin out companies, and interactions with industry.

The School has an ambition to build capacity in existing and emerging areas of biochemistry/cell biology and to develop multi-disciplinary collaborations across the University, including affiliated hospitals, Clinical Research Facility, leading research institutes; Microbiome Ireland, the Tyndall National Institute and Environmental Research Institute, as well as with research centres and universities on the island of Ireland. It is anticipated that the successful candidates will collaborate with colleagues to develop their research area and to build external partnerships aimed at generating high impact research output and research funding income.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Biochemistry, Cell Biology or in a closely related area, have a track record of international standing, and potential to successfully compete for research funding. Reporting to the Head of School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, the appointee will develop a research programme and contribute to the Schools undergraduate and postgraduate academic programmes. Teaching responsibilities will include teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and postgraduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other trainees.

Appointment may be made on the Senior Lecturer Salary Scale (Scale B): €78,088 - €110,644 / (Scale A) €75,411 – €105,111

Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
