  • About This Opportunity

    As the Senior Events Officer, play a crucial role in supporting UQ's Indigenous Engagement initiatives. You will coordinate and deliver a range of events and programs, engaging with diverse stakeholders including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, staff, alumni, and external partners. You will work closely with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement) and collaborate with UQ Events and Advancement teams to ensure successful event outcomes.

    Key responsibilities will include:

  • Plan, organise, and manage Indigenous Engagement events, including alumni gatherings, ceremonies, awards, and receptions, ensuring alignment with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander principles and protocols.

  • Collaborate with UQ Advancement, Indigenous Engagement Division, and other University units to foster partnerships and support stakeholder engagement.

  • Liaise with UQ Events, Marketing, and Global Engagement to ensure appropriate representation of Indigenous elders, University executives, and VIPs in events.

  • Handle event logistics, including site selection, guest lists, catering, audio-visual requirements, travel, and protocol observance, while adhering to risk management and sustainability practices.

  • Manage event budgets, negotiate with suppliers, and align procurement with UQ's Indigenous procurement policies and targets.

  • Maintain accurate records of donor and stakeholder interactions, draft correspondence for the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement), and ensure compliance with privacy and reporting requirements.

  • Support stewardship activities, source Indigenous-aligned gifts, and contribute to reporting obligations such as RAP and other internal and external frameworks.

    You will be self-motivated and adaptable, demonstrating the following:

  • Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and protocols.

  • Experience in planning and delivering events and initiatives for Indigenous communities.

  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to manage complex projects and events. Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders and effectively represent the University.

  • You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment and may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks.
