  • About the Role We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Database Administrator.

    The Database Administrator position at Swinburne University reports to the Director Digital Technical Delivery and involves managing the Oracle and SQL Server databases and associated applications. The role includes anticipating and addressing database and application usage challenges, database optimisation, performing recovery procedures, and taking a leadership role in database management.

    The ideal candidate will be an expert in SQL Server database administration, and utilization of database systems. Additionally, the position involves strategic planning for long-term database management, ensuring database security, and implementing disaster recovery measures. The Database Administrator will also mentor and support junior team members in their development.

    About You To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

    • Ensure the continued reliable operation of databases and ensure that data is at all times protected. • Install, maintain and upgrade Database Servers and associated applications, and tools. • Set up and maintain appropriate production, test and where appropriate, training and development environments. • Monitor and manage primary database storage structures and objects (e.g. tablespaces, tables, views, indexes, etc.) of applications and modify the Database structure where necessary to optimize performance and availability. • Create and Manage databases and where appropriate application users. • Ensure compliance with licensing.

    Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. • 7+ years of experience as a DBA or in a similar role. • Relevant professional certifications such as SQL Server DBA, Oracle DBA, or Azure DBA • Experience in cloud environments, (AWS and Azure)
