  • About This Opportunity

    As a Senior Cyber Security Engineer, you will be responsible for the support and development of UQ's Cyber Security capabilities including the detection, analysis, and response of cyber security incidents, raising operational awareness, and providing subject matter expertise to protect the University's user community.

    Key responsibilities will include:

  • Adopt and promote sound cyber security practices in compliance with UQ's Cyber Security Policy and procedures.

  • Provide support for customer and system issues, ensuring timely resolution.

  • Participate in continuous improvement activities for efficient service delivery.

  • Engage with diverse business and technical groups across the University to consult on the cyber security aspects of information technology.

  • Design, implement, and document changes to operational solutions.

  • Mentor and guide team members.

  • This is a full-time, fixed-term position through to June 2026.

    At HEW level 7, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $96,649 - $105,244, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $113,080 - $123,136 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.

    About You

    Essential

  • Qualifications and training equivalent to an undergraduate degree in IT or related field; or equivalent experience/training.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and manage conflicting demands.

  • Experience applying information security management policy, procedure, and standards in a workplace.

  • Knowledge and experience in at least three of the following: The architecture and services of the TCP/IP protocol suite, Endpoint, Email, Cloud or Network Security, Vulnerability and Risk Management, SIEM or big data analysis systems such as Elastic, Splunk, LogScale.

  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse range of people.

  • Willingness and ability to innovate and adopt new processes and technologies to deliver excellent service and quality outcomes

  • Desirable

  • Programming and/or the ability to read/ troubleshoot/ support automation requirements.

  • Experience working in a higher education setting and/or mentoring team members.
