About the position
The Senior Coordinator, Research Ethics and Biosafety will provide expert
advice and guidance in Human Research Ethics and other relevant research
policy and legislation to key research stakeholders including the University's
Human Research Ethics Committees and the Low-risk Ethics Advisory Panel and
senior management. They will have thorough knowledge and experience of the
relevant legislation and guidelines around the human research, including
relevant privacy legislation and clinical trials requirements. They will also
have a broader knowledge of other areas of ethics and biosafety and be pro-
active in the promotion of research integrity across the University.
Working within the Ethics, Integrity and Biosafety Team the incumbent will
provide a seamless and holistic service for key research stakeholders. This
includes; in addition to work on human research ethics, contribution of
knowledge and experience for the animal ethics and biosafety areas as well as
working with three Ethics Advisors to best support the Team and the
administrative needs of the Human Research Ethics Committees and the Low-risk
Advisory Panel.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Ethics, Integrity, and Biosafety some of your
duties will include:
Responsibility for providing executive-level advice and, in conjunction
with the Human Research Ethics Committees, implementing University-wide
policy changes on relevant human research ethics policy and guidelines.
Advising the Human Research Ethics Committees and the Low-risk Advisory
Panel and serving as the first point of contact for Chairs and Members of
the Committees.
Responsibility for the development, documentation and implementation of
clear processes and procedures for decision-making and the management of
project applications over the whole life cycle. This includes following up
Human Research Ethics Committees and the Low-risk Advisory Panel
decisions, providing policy advice, conducting investigations (under the
guidance of the relevant Chairs) and working on the development and
implementation of Information Technology Solutions for application and
data review and management.
Responsibility for efficient and effective administration of the Human
Research Ethics Committees and the Low-risk Advisory Panel including
recruiting new members and streamlining systems and processes.
Responsibility for oversight of governance, compliance and policy advice
in Human Research Ethics.
Skills & Experience
A postgraduate degree, research experience and five (5) years human
ethics experience and/or equivalent human research ethics experience,
preferably in the high education sector setting, and track record in
providing trusted advice to a variety of stakeholders.
Demonstrated knowledge of legislation and regulatory requirements for
human research ethics and experience in liaising with internal and
external agencies regarding reporting, monitoring and auditing
requirements.
Extensive experience in managing ethics committees, including
appointments, terms of reference and operating procedures, in an academic
or other relevant environment.
Ability to develop training materials and coordinate and deliver effective
training to stakeholders relevant to human research ethics across multiple
academic areas.
Demonstrated experience of implementing and advising on policy and
procedures in human research ethics.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability
to manage consultative relationships with key research stakeholders in
relevant areas.
Demonstrated management and leadership skills with capability to manage
and lead staff to foster a cohesive and effective team and managing
workflows.
