The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in a major strategic project, shaping communications that inform, engage and support colleagues across the University. Working on a transformation initiative with institution-wide reach, you will develop and deliver clear, compelling and timely messaging, ensuring colleagues understand key developments and their wider context.

We're looking for an exceptional writer who can bring clarity to complexity. Working closely with the project team, Human Resources colleagues and senior leaders, you will create high-quality content that informs, engages and builds understanding. From leadership briefings and staff updates to FAQs, intranet content and key messages, you will produce polished, audience-focused communications that are clear, concise and impactful, while handling sensitive issues with judgement, professionalism and discretion.

This is a hands-on role for an outstanding communicator who thrives on producing impactful content. Taking a proactive approach, you will ensure communications build understanding, maintain confidence and help colleagues to stay informed, understand what matters most and feel connected to the University's priorities and future direction.

The Person

You are an exceptional communicator with outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills, and a talent for turning complex information into clear, accessible and compelling content. With a strong eye for detail, you produce high-quality communications at pace while maintaining accuracy and consistency.

You bring experience of supporting communications for complex programmes, projects or transformation initiatives, alongside a strong understanding of how to reach different audiences through a range of communications channels. You are comfortable balancing competing priorities, working to tight deadlines and adapting your approach to meet evolving requirements.

A proactive, solutions-focused professional, you are skilled at providing trusted advice, influencing stakeholders and developing communications approaches that support organisational objectives.

Directorate/Function

The Corporate Affairs function sits within the Academic Services Directorate and plays a pivotal role in shaping and amplifying Kingston University’s story. Leading communications, public affairs, stakeholder engagement and reputation-building activity, the function strengthens the University’s profile, extends its influence and showcases the impact of its teaching, research and knowledge exchange. It plays a central role in positioning the University as a distinctive, authoritative and credible voice across higher education, industry, government and in civic life.

The Academic Services Directorate includes Research & Impact, Knowledge Exchange, Academic Registry, Quality Assurance and Enhancement, the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Centre, Corporate Affairs and Development, Alumni Relations & Engagement (DARE). Collectively the Directorate supports academics in their research and KE activities and supports some of the University’s governance and decision-making committees, maintains academic regulations, develops and implements academic policies, oversees the quality and standards of academic provision and leads the development of education practices across the University.

The Directorate is responsible for stimulating cutting edge research, impact and knowledge exchange and supporting a vibrant community of graduate research students, to increase the volume, impact and visibility of our research and business activities. We actively liaise with Faculties and researchers to support and develop research activities across all disciplines and provide related training and development opportunities. We foster interdisciplinary working to promote, advance and share knowledge with the overall aim of securing new revenue sources and contributing to regional prosperity. Our goal is to foster and sustain a vibrant research culture in which our researchers and research students can flourish.

As a directorate, we identify opportunities for innovation, see change as an opportunity, value constructive feedback and share good practice across the University.
