About This Opportunity
The primary role of the position is to provide support to the teaching, diagnostic services and research missions of the School of Veterinary Science in the discipline of Histology. The successful applicant will be expected to proactively contribute to other diagnostic and teaching areas.
Key responsibilities will include:
Manage and maintain the Histology lab, ensuring it is stocked, equipment is serviced, waste is disposed of, and quality controls and accurate records are upheld.
Perform histological processing, special stains, sample accessioning, and reporting, while advising and liaising with clients on technical questions, specimen collection, and processing techniques.
Assist in teaching histology laboratory skills to postgraduate students and researchers, train staff in diagnostic and research techniques, and support practical preparation, delivery, and cleanup for teaching activities.
Provide technical support for research projects, liaise with researchers on experiments and results, and collaborate with pathologists to ensure smooth handling of diagnostic cases.
Process external accounts, manage inventories, purchase consumables, and assist in other laboratories and diagnostic service areas as needed.
Undertake training, maintain records, and ensure compliance with biosafety, OHS, biosecurity, quarantine, and laboratory best practices.

About You
Bachelors Degree in Science or related discipline such as, Medical Laboratory Science, Veterinary Science or Veterinary Technology or equivalent combination of training and previous clinical laboratory experience.
Advanced histological skills and experience in a variety of tissue types and special staining techniques.
Computer literacy skills including Microsoft Office. Experience with computer based ordering and reporting programs would be an advantage.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and also autonomously in laboratory processes.
High level inter-personal and communication skills, with a commitment to excellent customer service.
Self-motivated and ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and service expectations. Commitment to excellence and an ability to work diligently with a high level of accuracy.
Desirable
Experience and skills in other diagnostic disciplines.
Knowledge of NATA and other laboratory accreditation schemes, occupational health and safety, and biosafety.
An interest in research and a desire to participate in research particularly in histology.
An avid interest or previous experience in the teaching and training of undergraduate and/ or post-graduate students.
Laboratory teaching and research support experience.
The successful candidate may be required to complete background checks including, Right to work in Australia, criminal history and education checks.
