I. JOB OVERVIEW
Job Description Summary: The George Washington University is recruiting for a full-time School Research Administrator to work in a dynamic and growing research environment as part of the Research Support Team (RST) 3, which supports the School of Medicine & Health Sciences (SMHS) and School of Nursing (SON). The School Research Administrator, RST 3 performs pre-award administration of sponsored projects and is responsible for providing administrative support and direction to research units. The position usually identifies potential grant opportunities and assists Principal Investigators (PI) with proposal development efforts including, but not limited to, budget creation, grant writing, and compiling scientific documents in accordance with sponsor guidelines and GW policies for proposal submission. This position explains facts, policies, and practices related to pre-award and exchanges information. Other responsibilities include:

  • Prepares all necessary paperwork (internal and external), obtains all necessary signatures, conducts final review of proposals, tracks progress of grant/contract submission, and ensures timely submission of proposals through GWU’s MyResearch.
  • Acts as a primary liaison between the Principal Investigator, School of Medicine & School of Nursing, Office of Sponsored Programs, Grants and Contracts Accounting, and the sponsor (grant/contract pre-award). Provides pre-award support to other research schools on an as-needed basis.
  • Analyzes data, interprets information, and provides logical conclusions/projections for proposal budget preparation. Responds to inquiries from multiple levels of management within the department, faculty and staff, sponsors, and other officials; resolves problematic issues; and clearly and accurately communicates all information to the Principal Investigator relating to grant/contract (pre-award).
  • Maintains grant/contract files and various spreadsheets (budgets, etc.).
  • Ensures accurate submission process and timely routing to the OSP department. This position supports a school’s research efforts and performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
