Researcher and Database Manager

1-2 South Parks Road, Oxford

About the role

The School of Archaeology is looking to recruit a Researcher and Database Manager to join the Endangered Archaeology in the Middle East and North Africa (EAMENA) project. The position is part of a project funded by Arcadia.

The post is a full-time appointment, for a fixed term contract until 30 June 2027, starting as soon as possible. The EAMENA project uses remote sensing to document heritage places and compiles this information in an online Arches database to help mitigate threats to the sites. Reporting to the Project Director, you will have responsibility for maintaining and developing the Arches-powered EAMENA database and its customised instances and managing the EAMENA GitHub repository as well as developing and maintaining a Linked Open Data strategy for the database. The Researcher and Database Manager provides guidance to the Management Committee, Advisory Board, and the EAMENA team across partner institutions relating to all IT matters relating to the project, particularly the development and maintenance of the EAMENA database.

Additional information about the EAMENA project is available at https:// eamena.arch.ox.ac.uk

About you

You will have a degree in a relevant subject, along with a postgraduate degree and/or professional qualification in a related field, or relevant work experience in a technical area. Additionally, experience with GitHub, Linux, Python, and JSON (and its derivatives) is required. Familiarity with the Arches data management platform, ideally with experience in an Arches-based project, is desirable. You will also have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings.

The successful applicant will be expected to be able to work independently to a high standard, and to collaborate with team members in Oxford, Leicester and Durham, colleagues across sister projects, as well as those abroad.
