Position Description Employees in this classification provide support in an assigned research laboratory conducting specified phases of research projects. Performs work independently and is responsible for developing new procedures and techniques to be utilized in the laboratory and in experiments, and new applications for standard procedures and techniques. Work is performed under usual laboratory conditions. Some hazards may be present due to use of radioactive, carcinogenic or other potentially harmful substances. Responsibilities also include ensuring overall cleanliness of the laboratory and laboratory equipment, and ordering and maintaining an adequate stock of necessary supplies. May instruct or direct work of subordinate laboratory personnel.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Collection of oral fluid, blood, and tissue samples from patients. Employee must be knowledgeable about federal and institutional policies and regulations regarding collections of oral fluids and tissue samples
  • Label, preparation and storage of samples. Employee must be knowledgeable about federal and institutional safety policies nd regulations regarding handling of lab specimens
  • Daily operations of biobank including quality assurance and quality control. Employee must be knowledgeable about federal and institutional policies regarding biobanks. Must communicate daily with Program Manager or Director
  • Maintenance of study protocol and data collection for project and reporting to involved lab. Employee must be knowledgeable about federal and institutional safety policies and regulations regarding handlining oflab specimens under supervision of the Faculty or Assistant Director
  • Assist with chemical, biochemical immunodiagnostic data of sample collection. Employee must be knowledgeable about federal and institutional safety policies and regulations regarding handling of lab analysis specimens under supervision of the Faculty, Manager, or Assistant Director
  • Other duties as assigned. Employee must communicate daily with Faculty ad Assistant Director and work to achieve project goals and milestones.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in laboratory setting
  • Good organization skills and the ability to perform aseptic technique
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Experience in collecting and processing samples from human subjects
  • Laboratory experience with DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, Western Blotting and ELISA. Experience in Tissue Culture techniques
