Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking a Research Support Manager to provide specialist advice and support to academic and research staff in applying for research funding from external bodies.

In this role you will provide one-to-one support to academic staff and researchers through the development of funding bids, as well as design, deliver and promote appropriate training programmes, thematic workshops and events.

As Research Support Manager (Development), you will join the Research Office to:

  • develop relationships with research funders to ensure Birkbeck is informed of up-to-date information on funding strategies, opportunities and policies,
  • play a key role in supporting individual researchers from your portfolio of academic departments to develop their research ideas into distinct and fundable projects,
  • support the development of relevant documentation for each bid in addition to other administrative activities such as costings,
  • provide mentorship in bid development to the wider Research Office team to enhance their skills in this area.
  • About you

    In order to be successful in the role of Research Support Manager, you will:

  • have experience of matching funding opportunities with areas of academic strength, capacity and excellence,
  • have experience of mapping out possible funding opportunities that academic staff can go for in both the short and medium term, either as the lead applicant or collaborator,
  • ensure the scientific or scholarly concept underpinning a research project matches the funding scheme applied for, and that it addresses the aim of the scheme,
  • demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding of the principles of costing, applications and pricing research.
  • Remuneration

    £42,365 rising to £48,424 per annum , Grade 7 of the College's London Pay Scale. Birkbeck offers a competitive salary and pension scheme, 31 days paid leave, flexible working arrangements and some of the most generous benefits in the HE sector, all while being located right in the heart of Central London.

    The salary quoted is on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.

    Terms and Conditions
