  • About the Role This is a brand-new role in which you can really make your mark and help to shape the research areas in the University of Melbourne. You will will lead the organisational development to ensure that our cross division/portfolio teams have the right capability and resources in the right places to support achievement of the University's Research aspirations.

    Research at The University of Melbourne is a dynamic and growing environment and your work will span across the Chief Operating Officer's Portfolio (predominantly in Research, Innovation and Commercialisation), Faculty and Chancellery Research and Enterprise teams. As well as organisational development and building capability in these areas, you will work on internal staff development, coaching and training as well as through the recruitment of external talent.

    Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working with the Organisational Development team, provide strategic advice to Research support professional staff leadership on best practice in organisational capability development and design. Make recommendations and lead the implementation of endorsed recommendations
  • Promote, develop and enhance the University's “Investing in Research Support Professionals” platform University-wide.
  • Provide strategic and practical hands-on support to implement talent management and succession planning processes for current and future key research professional support roles.
  • Provide guidance to hiring managers on the process of recruitment, induction and upskill new hiring managers.
  • Who we are looking for We are looking for an exceptional communicator, a skilled relationship and stakeholder manager with well-rounded negotiation and influencing skills. You should have the gravitas needed to build relationships with senior individuals, and be an excellent problem-solver with discretionary judgement.

    You will also have:

  • Qualification, or an equivalent combination of relevant extensive experience and/or education/training.
  • Project management experience, including working within a budget, to deliver creative and effective outcomes.
  • Experience in a management position in a values driven sector or organisation.
  • Experience in leading complex, muti-faceted programs.
  • Proven experience in designing, implementing and managing medium-large scale capability building and workforce planning projects.
  • Experience developing, maintaining and implementing policy and procedures.
  • Exceptional ability to think creatively and apply innovative concepts when providing advice, and to review outcomes to inform future advice.
  • High-level of digital literacy, proven ability to utilise technology to drive creative solutions to problems.
