  • About ARU:

We are ranked in the world's top 350 institutions in the 2022 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and we are a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research. Our research institutes and four faculties bridge scientific, technical and creative fields. We deliver impactful research which tackles pressing issues and makes a real difference to our communities. Our academic excellence has been recognised by the UK's Higher Education funding bodies, with 16 of our research areas assessed as world-leading. In 2021, we were awarded the Queen's Anniversary Prize for our world-leading music therapy work.

    About the role:

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a full time, fixed-term position as Research Portfolio Manager to join the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. Comprising four Schools (Cambridge School of Art; Cambridge School of the Creative Industries; School of Education; School of Humanities and Social Sciences) and three Research Institutes (Cambridge Institute for Music Therapy Research; Policing Institute for the Eastern Region; Storylab), the Faculty delivers a broad range or research activity and after a successful outcome in REF 2021, is seeking to further develop its capacity and quality across all research outputs.

With appropriate experience in the support and management of university research activity, you will support the Deputy Dean for Research and Innovation in the development of administrative systems that underpin our research activity, ensuring consistency across the Schools and Research Institutes and engaging with other research-focussed professional services colleagues in the Faculty and the wider university to drive improvement. You will liaise with partners in other universities and settings as necessary to fulfil the requirements of the role.

You will have a degree or a relevant professional/degree level qualification that is appropriate to the specific role. You will have proven experience of project management and risk management, and you will have experience of working with staff at all levels across an organisation. You will have demonstrable understanding of the Research Evaluation Framework (REF), and you will have good knowledge of administrative and financial processes. You will be able to use initiative to solve problems and you will be customer focussed.

Please note, this role is fixed term to 31st July 2025 and full-time, however, we would be willing to consider compressed hours, secondment and applications on the basis of a minimum of 30 hours.

It is expected that interviews will take place in early January 2024, although this may be subject to change.

Informal enquiries can be made via Chris Rawden, Head of Faculty Operations, [email protected].
