  • Your new role

    Curtin University is currently involved in a research project that aims to implement an Aboriginal Participatory Action Research approach. This initiative will engage stakeholders, Aboriginal Medical Services, and communities in both regional and metropolitan areas of Western Australia to enhance vaccination uptake among Aboriginal women and children.

    We are seeking a Research Officer to assist the Academic Project Lead in executing various research projects. This position includes coordinating project activities, managing data, and collaborating on reports.

    This role is a fixed term (until Dec 2025), part-time (0.5 FTE) opportunity. We expect the preferred candidate to work on Bentley Campus (travel within Western Australia's Aboriginal communities will be required when necessary). You will have the flexibility to choose which consecutive days you would like to work.

    In this role, you will, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with project management and develop proposals for NHMRC Partnership Project Funding.
  • Support stakeholder engagement and disseminate research outputs through publications and conference abstracts.
  • Conduct baseline data collection at six potential research sites.
  • Participate in research activities and summarise findings from literature searches.
  • Prepare research documentation, analyse data, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards and regulations.
  • Selection Criteria - We are looking for:

  • Completion of a health-related undergraduate degree with subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated effective engagement with stakeholders and established relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Knowledge and experience of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within the health sector and wider social implications.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to coordinate and implement project activities, prioritise work activities and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated effective written communication skills with the ability to construct clear and concise reports.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally with people of all levels with cross-cultural sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of computer applications and relevant digital technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, independently and with others as a team.
  • Desirable

  • Experience in tertiary education environment.
  • A valid driver's license is preferable as you might need to travel around the state.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse and present data.
  • Demonstrated discipline-specific knowledge and experience in relevant scientific/research methods, techniques and protocols.
