Research IT Officer (ADA)

Job description

IT Services

We are currently recruiting for 4 new, full-time positions within Research IT. The Research IT team is part of IT Services, and this is an exciting opportunity to be part of that team.

These positons are available on a permanent basis and offer the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some time from home. 3 of these positions are available from August 2024 and 1 is available immediately. We welcome applications from candidates interested in working less than full-time hours.

The role

The Research IT team support researchers with all their IT requirements, from bespoke hardware, support on high-performance compute (HPC) to software development, working alongside the wider Exeter IT department.

Following a significant investment, we are seeking to appoint a team to support lecturers and researchers working within our Computer Science department, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Maths of AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, and their applications.

These new posts will come with a range of experience and expertise, and we will seek to build a strong and diverse team of individuals able to achieve great things together and with colleagues in other fields within and outside the university.

Good communication skills will play a vital role in liaising effectively with colleagues elsewhere in the University to ensure the delivery of a high- quality service to end-users.

Applicants will hold an educational attainment at degree level or have demonstrable equivalent experience. You will ideally have experience of Windows, macOS and Linux administration, and experience of supporting a range of hardware from laptops through to rack mounted servers and storage. We are implementing Microsoft Azure Lab Services so any experience or knowledge of this would be advantageous.

Experience of working with high-performance computing (HPC) environments and administering complex cloud-based infrastructures would be an advantage. Knowledge and experience of machine learning or artificial intelligence research pipelines, would also be an advantage, as would other experience enabling the candidates to contribute to research and teaching.

Please ensure you read the Job Description and Person Specification for full details of this role.

We will be reviewing applications as they come in, so please don't hesitate in applying, as we reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications.

Are you convinced, but don't find you 100 percent fit the profile? Feel free to send us your application anyway! We look forward to growing with you!
