Job description

Research Funding Specialist

Grade 8 (£45,585 - £54,395)

Full time, Permanent

Abertay is a modern university with a global outlook, rooted in its local and national communities. We have made our mark with high quality, well-directed teaching and research, and a stimulating and enriching experience for our students.

The Research, Innovation and Enterprise Support Office (RIES)

The new RIES Office brings together staff, support and management functions from across the University, to provide an integrated, efficient, and coherent support and management service for the funding submission and award lifecycle. The RIES Office team will provide expert advice, guidance and operational support for the entire university Research and Knowledge Exchange portfolio. The new RIES Office is co-located with the Graduate School team, who provide support and professional development opportunities to our vibrant postgraduate and researcher community. Together the RIES and Graduate School teams are central to the continued development of our excellent research culture and environment, supporting delivery of the University's Research and Knowledge Exchange Strategy and achievement of its RKE ambitions.

Reporting to the Dean of Research and the Graduate School, you will join a small professional team and help drive the development of a newly formed RIES Office. The Research Funding Specialist's primary responsibility is to business partner with our key internal and external stakeholders providing expert advice and guidance across all pre-award tasks associated with all institution research proposals.

The role requires a dynamic and flexible team player, with previous professional experience as a research funding specialist or a related role. You should have a full understand of relevant costing and accounting concepts to ensure costing of research proposals are in line with TRAC and fEC methodologies. You should be able to understand fully the terms and conditions of proposals, and have experience of business partnering with key internal and external stakeholders. You should be able to provide relevant and reliable research funding advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders. Working closely with RIES colleagues you will be required to support and undertake governance tasks such as due-diligence checks and risk-reviews for research grant applications. We are seeking a well-organised, self-motivated individual with a tenacious commitment to the principles and practice of high- quality customer service, and the ability to contribute to the development and improvement of systems and procedures.
