  • Role Description

The University of York has, as a strategic goal, that by 2030, it will be known for its ambitious and effective industry partnerships. As a University for Public Good, we will innovate in partnership with business and industry to create a more equitable and sustainable future that considers society, culture and the environment alongside economic prosperity. Truly a University for the Public Good.

To fulfil this ambition, we launched a transformational initiative to Build Industry Engagement and Impact. At the heart of this transformation is the recruitment of outward-facing experts who will champion, lead and inspire research translation and engagement with industry and business. We are seeking candidates who have considerable experience working in or collaborating with business and industry in order to realise this ambition. We are seeking to appoint up to six industry research fellows in two rounds of recruitment.

Applications are welcomed in any discipline(s) where a significant opportunity can be demonstrated to enhance our strategic industrial partnerships. Areas already identified where we have great potential to expand existing collaborations include: healthcare and biomedical sciences, biotechnology, creative technologies, environmental sustainability and safe autonomous systems. We are interested in engaging with both researchers already in higher education and colleagues in industry/business seeking to move into an academic setting.

Female candidates, and candidates who identify as Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background, are strongly encouraged to apply as they are currently under-represented in senior academic roles at the University.

    The Role:
  • Build collaborations with business, industry, government agencies, professional bodies and other institutions to enhance the application of research and/or leverage staff expertise in real-world settings
  • Develop relevant types of engagement with business and industry such as collaborative and contract research, consultancy, commercialisation, continuing professional development and other types of engagement that create mutual benefit such as employability
  • Develop compelling proposals for funding business and industry collaborations with a strategy for scaling up interactions
  • Deliver successful business and industry-sponsored initiatives
  • Identify, cultivate, and scale up partnerships with business and industry stakeholders for research and education
  • The Process

This is the second round of recruitments, if you applied during the first round you do not need to apply again. This advert opened on the 05/02/2024 closing at midnight (local UK time) on 07/05/2024 Longlisted candidates will be invited to engage with the (relevant) Department/School for an initial exploratory discussion on potential industry/business opportunities. This will be followed at a later date by a second stage formal selection process for shortlisted candidates

We recognise the potential of part-time working and the ability to balance work and personal/family commitments. We are also keen to explore joint appointments with business or industry and the mutual benefits this could bring.

Informal enquiries are encouraged. Please contact [email protected]

Closing Date : 7th May 2024 Interviews : To be confirmed

The University strives to be diverse and inclusive – a place where we can ALL be ourselves.

We particularly encourage applications from people who identify as Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background, who are underrepresented at the University.

We offer family friendly, flexible working arrangements, with forums and inclusive facilities to support our staff. #EqualityatYork
