Research Fellow in Knee and Hip Biomechanical Evaluation

Do you have a strong technical background in musculoskeletal biomechanics with an interest in the knee and hip joint? Would you like to work as part of a multidisciplinary institute to address a clinically driven challenge?

We are looking for a proactive individual to join our team of researchers in the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (IMBE). The Institute houses the largest academic facility worldwide for the experimental simulation of joint replacements and natural joint tissues and leads research on joint replacements, tissue sparing interventions and biological scaffolds for tissue regeneration.

This role is part of an EPSRC International Centre to Centre Research Collaboration with the University of Denver where we are combining in vivo measurements taken at Denver with experimental and computational simulations at Leeds to evaluate how implants perform under different loading conditions. This project will focus on hip and knee biomechanics, and specifically on methods of evaluation for total joint replacements and minimally invasive interventions. It will involve experimental testing using laboratory simulators to evaluate the behaviour of both joint replacements and natural tissue. It will also involve computational modelling, using our established methods of simulating the lower limb joints and joint replacements using finite element analysis.

You will join a wider group developing in vitro and in silico preclinical models of musculoskeletal joints. You will have a strong background in musculoskeletal biomechanics with experience of experimental evaluation methods and finite element analysis.

You will join an institute that includes different expertise and substantial experience in supporting early stage researchers in a key phase of their career. We encourage an environment of collaboration, trust and wellbeing, which values difference of ideas and embraces diversity.
