Work with a team of leading researchers on a history of education project funded by the Australia Research Council and contribute to research activities and publications.

Be part of research networks across the Faculty of Education and the wider University of Melbourne.

About the Role The project “Progressive Education and Race: A transnational Australian history, 1920s-1950s” investigates educational histories in Australia across the first half of the twentieth century. It looks at how progressive ideas shaped education reform and the role of activism regarding Indigenous education across this period and into the present.

Key Project Strands

International progressive education agendas and how they were engaged in Australia and Oceania, and specifically how these played out in relation to education for Aboriginal Australia.

Transnational debates and initiatives concerning the reform of ‘native education' in Australia and Oceania.

Histories of Indigenous education and connected histories of Indigenous activism and advocacy for education.

As a valuable member of the research team, you will collaborate to advance research and publications aligned with these key project strands.

Your responsibilities will include:

Conducting research in consultation with project researchers.

Preparing annotated bibliographies, and scholarly reviews of research literature and archival materials.

Initiating new research aligned with the three identified project strands and progressing publications relating to key project strands, including contributing to the development of scholarly manuscripts, publications, and essays.

Supporting the communication and dissemination of research, including website updates as necessary, and preparing reports for distribution to the profession and broader educational communities.

Who We Are Looking For

You will have:

Completed PhD in Education or History, or a cognate discipline.

A research background relevant to at least one of the key project strands.

Exceptional research capabilities and evidence of research projects completed to an advanced level.

Demonstrated experience in historical research and documentary analysis.

Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of education studies or related scholarship.
