This post is being advertised as part of the Gravel Barrier Resilience in a Changing Climate (#gravelbeach) project. Gravel barriers represent up to 20% of the wave-exposed coastline of Great Britain, providing natural protection from coastal flooding and erosion, and supporting unique ecosystems. However, our ability to predict their morphodynamics is limited. This NERC funded project brings together researchers and stakeholders from around Great Britain to improve our understanding and modelling of gravel barrier dynamics, inform sustainable coastal management methods, and increase coastal resilience.

As a Research Fellow on this project, you will work with other investigators and be responsible for:

The successful candidate will have experience in sediment dynamics to support the project team in this process. They are expected to have experience with relevant programming languages and have a strong numerate background/experience. The post holder will also be expected to be an ambassador for the projects, including disseminating findings by taking the lead in preparing journal publications, presenting results at conferences, participating in workshops, or exhibiting work at other appropriate events.

The applicant should have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and demonstrable experience in programming.

Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

The post is fixed term (22 months) and the start date is 1 May 2024. There is some flexibility to start prior to this date.
