Research Computing Coordination and Facilitation Manager- Available on a 2
year Fixed Term contract or Secondment basis
The purpose of this role is to define and to support a ‘unified access'
service for research computing facilities available at Oxford. ‘Research
Computing' is here defined as research-related computing tasks which require
capabilities not usually available using only a local personal computer, for
scale, sensitivity or other reasons.
Oxford researchers currently have access to a range of Research Computing
facilities. Oxford has committed to enhancing its available Research Computing
capabilities and simplifying the process of identifying and accessing the
appropriate resources for our researchers.
You will work with stakeholders across the University to catalogue and
understand the currently available RC facilities and associated training
offerings, gather feedback on potential gaps in provision and barriers to
access, and devise, implement and promote a new University-level information
and advisory service to act as a unified interface to Research Computing at
Oxford.

About the Role
Identify university-wide opportunities for improvement/optimisation of
Oxford's Research Computing facilities and training offerings, potentially
through reusable resources from outside Oxford, and develop business cases
for investment to take these forward
Take the lead in building and maintaining an online catalogue of relevant
local, national and international Research Computing facilities and
relevant available training
Manage and coordinate the complex and disparate group of stakeholders
around Research Computing at Oxford in their progress towards a more
unified community of practice
Specify and create Research Computing support pathways for Oxford
researchers using (for example) the creation of online resources and
organising outreach activities
Proactively assess and diagnose issues facing Oxford researchers in their
use of and access to Research Computing solutions, and partner with them
by providing advice and guidance to achieve their aims
Leading the service based upon the above elements, including reporting on
agreed metrics, managing an associated budget and maintaining agreed
service levels
Keeping abreast of current and emerging technological change within the
global Research Computing community and generate content for researchers
to help signpost them to technologies and innovations that might
facilitate and augment their work
Identify opportunities for self-development in order to enhance your
ability to deliver the above
About You
Hold a degree level qualification with a significant computational
element, or extensive equivalent workplace experience
Ability to manage and enthuse stakeholders at all levels in their
engagement with Research Computing at Oxford
Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including experience in
digital copywriting, editing and proofreading
Demonstrable experience of service delivery management, ideally in a
research intensive and/or university environment
Good understanding of IT security risks and mitigations, both in local and
cloud-based systems
Good understanding of Information Governance and associated compliance
tasks, ideally in a research-related setting
Experience designing and delivering training on technical subjects at a
high complexity level
High level of self-motivation and self-organisation, with a drive for
performance and quality improvement
Extensive experience of cross-team working in a large and complex business
environment
