The Department of Psychology at the University of York is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate to work under the supervision of Dr Lusine Grigoryan on a project funded by the European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant “The many faces of prejudice: the “what”, the “why”, and the “how” of inferences we make from membership in social groups”.

    Department

The Department of Psychology is a leading research and teaching center in the UK. In the Times Higher Education's ranking of the most recent nationwide assessment of research quality (REF 2021) Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of York was rated in the UK top ten for research excellence.

You will co-lead one of the work packages of the project in close collaboration with Dr Lusine Grigoryan. We will conduct a series of online factorial survey experiments in 50 countries to investigate inferences people in different cultural contexts make from membership in social groups, and how this information is processed to form attitudes and drive behaviours towards others. Your responsibilities will include preparing study materials in English, managing the questionnaire translation and data collection process (which will be carried out by an external organization), data preprocessing and analysis, and disseminating the results through publications, conference presentations, and public engagement activities. Opportunities for mentorship and additional collaborations will be available and encouraged.

    Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

The successful candidate will have :

  • PhD in Psychology or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Knowledge of and interest in social cognition and cross-cultural research
  • A track record of conducting individual and collaborative research and of writing up research for publication
  • Familiarity and experience with factorial survey experiments, cross- cultural and multilingual research, and advanced data analysis in R are desirable.
  • Interview date: 28 January 2025

For informal enquiries: Please contact Lusine Grigoryan on [email protected]
