Based in the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, University of Glasgow, the postholder will make a leading contribution to the Relationships and Health programme, working with Dr. Emily Long and colleagues.
The successful candidate will work across a range of health-related projects that use systems science methods, such as participatory systems mapping and social network analysis, on topics such as adolescent mental health, physical activity, loneliness and healthy ageing. The post will involve collaborative writing of research publications based on a range of datasets. Familiarity with mixed methods research would be a benefit.
This is an ideal position for someone with strong writing skills, and a desire to widen their portfolio of research outputs. You will join a supportive, welcoming team of interdiscliplinary scholars, gaining exposure to a wide assortment of research.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Perform the following activities in conjunction with and under the guidance of the Principal/Co Investigator:
1. Contribute to the synthesis of complex systems data and social network data, integrating mixed methods findings.
2. Take a leading role on academic writing of project outputs, with support from the wider team.
3. Plan and conduct assigned research individually or jointly in accordance with the project deliverables and project/Unit/Institute/College research strategy.
4. Survey the research literature and environment, understand the research challenges associated with the project & subject area, & develop/implement a suitable research strategy.
5. Take a leading role in team/group meetings/seminars/workshops and School research group activities to enhance the wider knowledge, outputs and culture of the School/College.
6. Contribute to the preparation and content of research funding applications related to healthy ageing, adolescent health, and social relationships.
7. Develop and enhance your research profile and reputation and that of The University of Glasgow/School/Research Group, including contributing to publications of international quality in high profile/quality refereed journals, enhancing the research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit, and gathering indicators of esteem.
8. Contribute to the presentation of work at international and national conferences, at internal and external seminars, colloquia and workshops to develop and enhance our research profile.
9. Contribute to the identification of potential funding sources and to assist in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support future research within the Programme.
10. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team/ group/ meetings/ seminars/ workshops across the research Group/Institute/College/University and wider community.
11. Contribute to the organisation, supervision, mentoring and training of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and less experienced members of the project team to ensure their effective development.
12. Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the research group and Institute, including Budgets/Expenditure.
13. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field/discipline.
14. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
15. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School/Director of Research Institute.
16. Contribute to the enhancement of the University's international profile in line with the University's Strategic Plan, World Changers Together.
A1. Normally Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or alternatively possess the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience, with experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s)

C1. A comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of current issues and future directions within the wider subject area or subject specialism (e.g., social science, systems or social network methods).
C2. Project or subject (e.g., social science, systems or social network methods) specific skills including the interpretation of mixed methods findings.
C3. Research creativity and cross-discipline collaborative ability as appropriate.
C4. Excellent communication skills oral and written, including public presentations and ability to communicate complex data/concepts clearly and concisely

Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 7, £39,347 - £44,263 per annum.
This post is full time, fixed term until 31 March 2025.
