  • About the Role

    Reporting directly to Associate Professor Pascal Dujif, Enterprise Fellow: UniSA Clinical & Health Sciences, as the Research Associate you will conduct high-quality scientific research and report on research outcomes in line with the goals of the Cancer Pharmacogenomics Laboratory, facilitating collaboration and translation of research findings. This research specifically focuses on targeting genomic instability in cancer cells in vitro and tumours in vivo.

    The Research Associate will very closely interact with researchers at the Centre for Cancer Biology (CCB). The CCB is an alliance between the University of South Australia and the Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN) and is co-located with other cancer-focussed researchers within a purpose-built building in Adelaide's Biotech and Medical Precinct. The CCB studies the fundamental causes of cancer in order to find new ways to prevent and treat the disease and is a recognised hub for innovative science leading to breakthrough therapies.

    Core Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the planning of research by participating in project planning sessions, offering new ideas on research directions and reviewing relevant literature and other sources of information
  • Generate research data with limited freedom to explore possible new methods and directions
  • Contribute to the dissemination of new knowledge by drafting reports, abstracts, scientific papers and other instruments providing accounts of research undertaking and the findings observed
  • Maintaining daily comprehensive records of work performed and results of studies
  • Essential Skills and Experience

  • Postgraduate qualification in cancer biology, cell biology, molecular biology or a related field
  • Basic – but preferably advanced – knowledge and skills in cancer cell biology in a wet-lab setting, supported by authorship on scientific publications
  • Demonstrated substantial experience in culturing human cell lines (and ideally primary human cancer cells) in 2D and ideally in 3D culture systems (e.g., organoid/spheroid systems) to study aspects of cancer cell biology
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in data management (including confidential records and data), statistical analysis, writing research publications, including evidence of support on international research outcomes, as well as demonstrated organisational skills to successfully manage workload and meet deadlines
