The MRC Epidemiology Unit is seeking to appoint a Research Associate

This position is based in the Unit's Nutritional Epidemiology research group. The primary role of this post is to develop a portfolio of research on the links between dietary exposures including plant based diets, planetary health diet, ultra-processed foods and health. In addition, there will be opportunities to develop research into the potential for precision nutrition for disease prevention.

The MRC Epidemiology Unit is a department within the University of Cambridge's School of Clinical Medicine and is situated within the Institute of Metabolic Science on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. Its mission is to study the genetic, developmental and environmental factors that cause obesity, diabetes and related metabolic disorders and develop strategies for their prevention. The Unit benefits from a number of large-scale, cross programme epidemiological studies with detailed datasets allowing a wide range of research from genetics to public health. Highly experienced information teams and other specialist teams support the scientists in the delivery of their research aims.

Alongside a competitive salary, University staff are eligible for a comprehensive package of benefits and services that include discounts on shopping, health care, financial services and public transport. We also offer defined benefits pension schemes and tax-efficient bicycle, car lease and charity-giving schemes.

The successful candidate will have a PhD level qualification in topics within nutritional epidemiology and public health aspects of type 2 diabetes, obesity and related metabolic conditions. Applicants will have demonstrable analytical skills, and be able to identify, develop and apply a broad range of tools and methods to pursue the research objectives. The candidate should be able to undertake and coordinate research and establish internal and external research collaborations as appropriate.

This is a fixed-term position from 1 October 2024 to 31 December 2025.

The role can be performed as a hybrid position if appropriate and can be negotiated in line with the business need.
