Position Summary

The Organizational Disparities Laboratory (ODL) is recruiting a Research Scientist. This position will provide oversight and direction to the research operations within ODL. The position requires a PhD in education, the economics of education, economics or a related discipline in the social and behavioral sciences. The Research Scientist will work in partnership with the Director and Assistant Director in three key areas: (1) research agenda and strategic planning; (2) quality assurance of research instrumentation, methods, conduction, analysis and evaluation; and (3) general oversight of research projects to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency. It is also expected that the Research Scientist will serve as a co-investigator and/or collaborator on various research projects, both national and local in scope. The Research Scientist will supervise the research staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES: • Participate in the planning, coordination, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of the lab's research portfolio • Interact with collaborating institutions to coordinate and manage the data- collecting process • Gather and synthesize information on trends and emerging issues impacting ODL's research portfolio • Assist the director, assistant director, and staff in advancing projects, conducting research, and preparing reports to make sense of the data that has been previously collected through the project • Prepare manuscripts for publication utilizing new and existing data collected

ABOUT ODL: The Organizational Disparities Laboratory (ODL) is a new research laboratory affiliated with Michigan State University. The mission of the Organizational Disparities Laboratory (ODL) is to identify, illuminate, disrupt, and dismantle organizational disparities. That is, the differences and dissimilarities in the experiences among individuals in an organization such as a workplace, professional association, or school. We achieve this through rigorous interdisciplinary research, cutting-edge workshops and learning experiences, the production and dissemination of useful tools and resources, and innovative partnerships. The ODL puts research into action by creating innovative solutions that advance organizational equity. It serves as an incubator for collaboration, engaging scholars and experts to identify and tackle the next big questions related to long-standing, consistent disparities that emerge in organizations.

Doctorate -Education, Economics of Education

Minimum Requirements

• Demonstrated refereed publication experience related to K12 and postsecondary education policy, practice, and research; specifically organizational disparities and broadening participation in the scientific workforce • Experience in conducting survey research, qualitative inquiry, planning study methods, managing data collection activities, questionnaire design, data management, report writing, and client relations • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and ability to juggle multiple responsibilities effectively • Experience with managing research teams and large-scale data collection projects • Strong writing, communication, and presentation skills • Ability to collaborate effectively and work well in teams • Ability to take responsibility to meet deadlines and initiate tasks without close supervision • Ability to conduct independent analyses of quantitative and/or qualitative • Demonstrated analytic and communication skills • Experience working with sharing research findings with practitioners
