Position Summary
The postdoctoral Research Associate will conduct research on machine learning
for time projection chambers (TPCs) at FRIB
Develops machine learning techniques and software with the groups of Prof.
Ravishankar in the CMSE Department and Prof. Liu in the CSE Department,
supporting experimental groups (such as the research groups of Prof. Wrede
and Prof. Bazin) working with TPCs in the FRIB Experimental Nuclear Science
Division.
Develops machine learning techniques and software to support research with
TPCs at FRIB including GADGET II and AT-TPC
Generally supports the experimental research programs with TPCs at FRIB
including GADGET II and AT-TPC
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within
the scope of the duties in this job classification
Excellent communication skills to communicate effectively and credibly,
both verbally and in writing with all audiences
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites

Required Degree
Doctorate -Nuclear Science or Computer Science
Minimum Requirements
Ph.D. in Nuclear Science or Computer Science
Experience in either Experimental Nuclear Science or Machine Learning
High potential for excellence in research, as demonstrated through
completed research projects and publications in peer-reviewed journals
and/or computer science conference proceedings
Excellent communication skills to present approaches, plans, and findings
as evidenced by presentations at conferences, workshops, or other
professional meetings
Desired Qualifications
Solid knowledge of principles and techniques pertaining to nuclear science
and experimental research, demonstrated by the preparation, execution, and
analysis of experiments
Demonstrated proficiency in the fields of mathematical modeling, big data
analysis, and the design of algorithms and systems within the realm of
machine learning and deep learning
Experience with Time Projection Chambers
Experience with Python and/or PyTorch and/or C++
