Job Title: Research Assistant

Contract/Duration: 12-months - Part-time (50% WTE)

Remuneration: Research Assistant (50% WTE - to a maximum of Level 1 Point 10 on the Research Assistant Salary Scale, subject to experience)

About Our Research

iPASTAR

iPASTAR-Improving Pathways for Acute STroke And Rehabilitation is a Collaborative Doctoral Training programme funded by the Health Research Board of Ireland (HRB). The iPASTAR programme has equipped a cohort of four PhD trainees with skills in a wide range of research methodologies focussed on the generation of evidence and development of cost-effective patient-focused interventions to improve patient care and outcomes. This CDA is an inter- institutional structured PhD training programme that encompasses the RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences, and University College Dublin.

Summary of Post

The iPASTAR team wishes to hire a Research Assistant to help with a project titled, “STROKE-SPEAK” which is funded under a Health Research Board of Ireland (HRB) Knowledge Translation Award (KTA). The iPASTAR research programme is based on four pillars: acute care and equity of access, transitions of care from hospital to rehabilitation, living well after stroke and stroke prevention, and understanding the costs associated with strokes. Stroke SPEAK is designed to streamline the communication of our research findings – ‘Time Means Brain,' ‘The Road to Recovery' and ‘Stroke Savvy Living' – by using various channels and resources. Our goal is to raise awareness, share knowledge, and ultimately improve outcomes for individuals affected by stroke. The Research Assistant will work closely with the PIs of the iPASTAR programme. This will involve coordinating the development of educational content; hosting PPI and development workshops, and final refinement of STROKE SPEAK resources including coordination of the translation of resources.

Specifically, the duties of the post are:

  • To develop educational STROKE SPEAK content for staff and patients.
  • To coordinate and host Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) / stakeholder and development workshops.
  • To lead the final refinement of STROKE SPEAK resources.
  • To coordinate the translation of final resources.
  • Contributing to the development of dissemination outputs, including a project website.
  • To develop a repository for all Stroke SPEAK resources to ensure that they are accessible for stroke patients, their families and carers, all healthcare professionals working in stroke care and the general public.
  • To evaluate reach and capture measures of success of the Stroke SPEAK repository.
  • Co-ordination of own day-to-day work to support ongoing projects.
  • Undertaking duties assigned by the PIs, workpackage leads or his/her nominee in support of the projects.
  • Qualifications – (Essential):

  • A BSc or MSc or equivalent in management, marketing, health services research or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge & Experience – ( Essential):

  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Evidence of the ability to work independently and efficiently, including excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal, report writing and IT skills.
  • Knowledge & Experience (Desirable):

  • Experience developing research outputs for diverse audiences.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary & international research teams.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement.
  • Content expertise in stroke or other age-related chronic disease.
