Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor in Early Earth Evolution and Planetary Sciences in the Department of Earth Sciences, The University of Hong Kong (Ref.: 526920), to commence in September 2024 or as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to work on key events related to the evolution of the Early Earth and other terrestrial planets (chemically, thermally, physically, and/or tectonically). The appointee will work closely with Professor Jian ZHANG (Jason) and Professor Guochun ZHAO in the Department of Earth Sciences.


  • a Ph.D. degree in Earth, Planetary and Space Sciences
  • excellent research experience
  • a strong publication record in the following areas: Hadean-Archean environment and tectonics, magnetic field inhomogeneity, and the internal dynamics of terrestrial planets etc. would be advantageous
  • able to work independently with a systematic approach
  • possess a good command of written and spoken English
  • highly self-motivated

    What We Offer

    A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave, medical benefits and free access to on-campus gyms and libraries.
