Research Assistant position in Molecular Biology at BRIC Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences University of Copenhagen

We are looking for a highly motivated, well-organised, and quality-conscious Scientific Assistant to provide experimental and operational support to the Cvejic Lab with the commence date of May 1st 2024 or soon thereafter.

Our research

We are a team of highly skilled researchers collaborating with international partners from industry and other universities to perform exciting interdisciplinary science using cutting-edge experimental and computational technologies.

The research in our group can be broadly divided into two main areas:

Our basic research projects using human foetal haematopoietic cells aim to dissect dynamics and cellular programmes active during human blood lineage development and to decipher how haematopoietic differentiation pathways are influenced by different microenvironments.

In our translational research projects, we use various state-of-the-art single cell sequencing techniques to analyse cancer patient samples, investigating the influence of the tumour microenvironment in the context of pathological differentiation of immune cells.

Your job

You will have a scientific education in life sciences and practical experience in molecular biology laboratory techniques. You will be involved in processing tissue samples from cancer patients - scarce material that needs to be handled with great care and responsibility. You will be well-organised, meticulous, reliable, and attentive to detail. You will have very good communication skills as you will work in a multidisciplinary, international, and highly interactive team of biologists, clinicians, and bioinformaticians. You will be keen to learn and improve skills in single-cell genomics within a supportive laboratory environment. You will work with diverse methodologies, and you will be adaptable to dynamic changes in your daily tasks.

Profile

We are looking for a highly motivated, well-organised, and quality-conscious Scientific Assistant with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills

  • M.Sc. Degree in life sciences or related
  • Significant experience in molecular and cell biology techniques
  • Basic understanding and practical experience with flow cytometry
  • Highly organised, attentive to detail, reliable
  • Adaptability to dynamically changing priorities and tasks
  • Very good communication skills in written and spoken English
  • Desirable experience and skills

  • Experience in working with patient-derived material
  • Experience in tissue dissection and histology
  • Experience in sequencing techniques (e.g. library preparation for RNA- Seq)

    The place of employment is at the Biotech Research &Innovation Centre (BRIC), University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment.     Terms of employment

    The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

    The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 3 years. The starting date is the 1st of May 2024 or soon thereafter.

    Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.
