Your role
The Research Assistant role has been created to support the increasing research activities within Academic Experience and Success and the Students and Education Portfolio at RMIT Vietnam. This role is essential in ensuring the successful execution of research projects, contributing significantly to the university's mission of advancing research, innovation, and student engagement. This Research Assistant is responsible for providing high-level research assistance, including conducting literature searches, data management, recruiting participants, obtaining consent, maintaining files, scheduling and conducting interviews, and assisting with data analysis. The role requires high autonomy, including independent decision-making in research design, data collection, and analysis. This includes generating correspondence, reports, and graphics while demonstrating strong communication, accountability, flexibility/adaptability, judgment/problem-solving, customer service, and core values.
Specific responsibilities will depend on the topic, nature and duration of the project, as provided by the Senior Manager L&T, RMIT Vietnam SoTL Lead and Primary Investigators.
Report to Senior Manager, Learning & Teaching
Key Accountabilities
Conduct independent research in the area under the general supervision of an Academic Lead, exercising high levels of autonomy.
Assist projects to prepare research ethics applications.
Conduct comprehensive academic literature reviews and database searches.
Innovatively design data collection methodologies, interview protocols and methodological techniques that cater specifically to the unique RMIT Vietnam environment.
Provide mentoring to academic staff new to educational research in relation to education research methodologies.
Ensure meticulous data collection, storage, and preliminary analysis following research protocols.
Conduct, record, and transcribe interviews; conduct record and analyze class observations.
Prepare and manage presentations, reports, research proposals, articles, and publications, demonstrating advanced communication skills.
Conduct high level qualitative and quantitative data analysis using tools such as NVivo and SPSS.
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and University policies and procedures, including research ethics, equity, and health & safety.
Support day-to-day research activity and coordinate activities with the research leads and relevant stakeholders.
Prepare detailed reports related to the department's research activity outcomes, emphasizing clear and effective communication.
Other tasks as assigned by Line Manager.
Key Selection Criteria
University graduate degree (Masters degree) in Education, Arts, Science, or Social Science.
Demonstrated research experience in primary or secondary data collection.
Advanced ability to use NVivo and SPSS is preferred.
Extensive knowledge and skills in using literature review databases.
Proven ability to conduct innovative and analytical research, analyse, interpret, evaluate, coordinate, as well as report resulting information.
Demonstrated ability to support research proposal preparation and innovative research design in Education and Social Science.
Significant experience in preparing detailed research reports and graphic presentations of data.
Strong problem-solving skills that ensure detailed follow-up when required.
Well-developed planning and organizational skills with proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks, set and meet deadlines, and give meticulous attention to detail.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite of applications and the use of AI tools for research.
Ability to work with high autonomy while displaying a strong commitment to working in a team environment, including the ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues and cluster leads/members.
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.
Highly developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to presenting complex research findings and confidently handle a range of situations with people from a diverse range of academic and business backgrounds.

English Proficiency
English is the language of teaching and communication at RMIT Vietnam. For this role, the minimum requirement is IELTS General 7 .0 (or equivalent Linguaskill 170).
