GS-3 Research Assistant in Cryogenic CMOS IC Design
Contract: Full Time/Fixed Term
Microelectronic Circuits Centre Ireland (MCCI) is an EI / IDA technology centre hosted at Tyndall National Institute. Its mission is to carry out industry-led world-class Analog, Mixed-Signal and RF integrated circuit research and to deliver trained people and IP to industry. MCCI is collaborating with 35 companies and many of the staff eventually transfer into the thriving microelectronics industry in Ireland. MCCI targets real-life applications with its research and currently has projects in diverse topics such as Cryo-CMOS, med-tech, bio-sensing, wireless communication, ultra-low power circuits and power-management. Please visit www. mcci.ie for more information.
The project
Traditional quantum computing implementations employ quantum processors operating near absolute zero temperature (between 20 and 230omK). On the other hand, the readout circuits, that read the quantum processor states, operate at room temperature (273oK). This imposes integration limitations due to the gap in operating temperatures. Cryogenic CMOS (Cryo-CMOS) operating at 4K have emerged as a solution to the quantum processor + readout circuit integration. Analogue-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) are essential building blocks in the design of quantum processor's readouts. At the Microelectronic Circuits Centre Ireland (MCCI), we are developing innovative ADCs capable of operating at cryogenic temperatures (4K) while displaying excellent linearity (70dB+), high sampling rate (1GS/s+) and sub-milliwatt power dissipation. This ADCs, and the corresponding auxiliary circuits such as voltage reference, LDOs, comparators, will enable the next generation of integrated quantum computers.
The Role
The successful candidate will be based at MCCI in the Tyndall National Institute, Cork. He/she will assist in the modelling, designing and testing of Cryo-CMOS circuits for quantum computing applications, which include but are not limited to Comparators, ADCs, bandgap references, LDOs, etc.
