Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 15 months in the first instance.

The Mateo Sanchez lab, located in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge, is hiring one reasearch assistant. We are a growing chemical-biology research group that aims to develop new molecular tools for neuroscience and cell biology.

The researcher will work on different topics: (A) The molecular cloning of different construct encoding proteins for the expression of gas vesicles. (B) Yeast strain engineering.

The applicant is expected to develop new ideas and concepts in the areas outlined below in collaboration with the PI, by combining their expertise with the core capabilities of the lab. The candidate is expected to work on projects as part of a team, and communicate the results clearly. Specifically, we are looking for someone with a strong background in molecular and synthetic biology, with an emphasis on protein engineering. Experience in directed evolution will be highly desirable and some expertise in enzyme catalysis would be ideal.
