Research Assistant/Associate in Un-learning for Decentralized Environments

(Fixed Term)

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months.

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant/Associate to join the CaMLSys lab in the Department of Computer Science and Technology, at the University of Cambridge, UK.

We seek an independent detail-oriented individual with strong statistical and machine learning skills to participate in projects within an active research team of PhD students and other RAs (see team description below). The primary focus of this role will be on adaptability of Machine Learning models, namely continual learning (data insertion) and machine unlearning (data deletion).

The core responsibility of this role will be to contribute our current on- going research projects related to federated learning, as well as bootstrapping new investigations within this area. We approach this work as a collaborative team exercise and so this approach to research is expected from this role. In keeping with the role of an RA, this position will have other satellite responsibilities. Additionally, this individual will be expected to perform certain lab responsibilities such as providing forms of mentorship to PhD students (depending on prior experience), organizing select lab activities, maintaining select lab software and equipment, and assisting in preparing materials (like grant applications and presentations). A high degree of self-motivation and research-oriented thinking are all essential traits for this position. The position is for 18 months in the first instance, with potential renewal on a yearly basis.

Requirements

Candidates should have (or nearly submitted) a PhD in Computer Science or a related subject.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
